An arrestee confesses to killing Sonaton
One of the three arrested stalkers in the Sonaton killing case in Bogra gave a confessional statement before a court on Monday evening.
The deceased was Singapore expatriate Sonaton Chandra Modok, 26, son of Suroth Chandra Modok of South Gondagram village under Shajahanpur upazila of the district.
A case was lodged by the deceased's father, accusing four identified and around 10 unidentified youths of the area. Police have arrested three identified accused so far and are conducting drives to arrest the rest.
The arrestee who gave confessional statement is Razib Sarkar, 25, son of late Dosizal of CO Bazzar area under Rangpur town and son-in-law of Dulu driver of South Gondaram village.
The court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Shariful Islam granted 5-day remand for the other two arrestees on Monday evening.
The remanded accused are Rafiul Islam Roni, 22, son of late Chan Mia of the village, and Selim Mia, son of Mosharaf Hossain of the village.
Shuchi Modok, wife of Sonaton, demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of her husband's killers.
A gang of stalkers stabbed Sonaton to death for protesting stalking of girls at a Hindu temple at Adikalibari in the village on Saturday night.
Following the killing, members of the Hindu community went to the offices of the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police in Bogra and submitted letters asking for punishment of the killers and security of the community.
