AL’s Kaziul poised to become Kurigram municipality mayor

Awami League candidate Kaziul Islam has been elected unofficially in the Kurigram municipality election.

Kaziul got 20,571 votes with the boat symbol and his nearest contestant independent (BNP rebel) candidate Abu Bakar Siddique got 5,264 votes, said District Election Officer and Returning Officer Jahangir Alam Rakib.

There were 36,896 votes cast in 24 polling stations of the municipality till 4:00pm which is 66 percent of the total 56,397 votes, he said.

Among other candidates, BNP candidate Shafiqul Islam Bebu got 5,165 votes, Islamic Shasantantra candidate Abdul Majid got 4,085 votes and independent candidate Saidul Hasan Dulal got 1,812 votes.
