‘Almost all Boro paddy in haor areas harvested despite pandemic’
Almost all the Boro paddy in haor areas has been harvested despite labour shortages due to the coronavirus outbreak, Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque said today.
Apart from that, 39 percent of the Boro crop in other areas of the country has been harvested too, the minister was quoted as saying according to a press release issued by the ministry today.
The Ministry of Agriculture had earlier sent at least 75,000 workers to haor areas to harvest crops due to a shortage of workers amid the ongoing shutdown enforced to keep the spread of coronavirus in check.
The release also said farmers should be able to harvest the rest of their crop by June.
Nearly 350,500 workers have harvested paddy in haor areas this season while maintaining health guidelines.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension, Boro was cultivated on 4.45 lakh hectares in the haor regions of Kishoreganj, Netrakona, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Sylhet and Brahmanbaria.
