Alleged thief killed in mob beating

An alleged thief was beaten to death by a mob at Badarpur village in Patuakhali Sadar upazila early yesterday.

 The deceased is Jamal Hossain, 40, son of Nazim Hawladar of the village.

Quoting locals, police said Jamal entered the house of one Ismail Sikdar at the village at around 2:00am and tried to steal valuables from there.

As the family members cried for help, villagers rushed in and caught the Jamal. They beat him up mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot.

Being informed, police went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Patuakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy. None was arrested in connection with the incident.

Sub-Inspector Md Humayun of Patuakhali Sadar Police Station said they are investigating the matter.
