AL man shot dead in Jessore
A union-level activist of ruling Awami League (AL) was shot dead allegedly by his opponents following a dispute over taking lease of a water body in Jessore Sadar upazila this morning.
The deceased was identified as Ezaz Ahmed, 40, son of late Abul Hossain of Jhaudanga village in the upazila.
Ezaz was returning to his village from Churamonkathi Bazar riding on his motorcycle while some miscreants waylaid him in Chatiantala Mollikpara area and opened fire on him, our Benapole correspondent reports quoting locals and police.
Critically injured Ezaz was whisked off to Jessore Medical College Hospital (JMCH) where the duty doctor declared him dead.
He was "brought dead" and the bullet pierced the victim's head from behind, said Abdur Rashid, a doctor of the hospital.
Confirming the matter, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station said they were investigating into the incident.
Earlier in 2014, miscreants reportedly hacked Ezaz's elder brother Shahidul Islam, also a local AL activist, to death over taking possession of the water body.
