Accused in 7 murder cases hurt in 'gunfight' with cops
A listed criminal was injured in a 'gunfight' between his cohorts and police near Dharmatala Level Crossing in Jessore town early yesterday.
The victim, Akhtaruzzaman Diku, 32, son of Oliar Rahman of Kharki area in the town, is now undergoing treatment at Jessore Medical College Hospital under police guard.
Officer-in-Charge Elias Hossain of Jessore Kotwali Police Station said police arrested Diku, accused in seven murder cases, on Sunday evening.
On the basis of his statement, police, taking Diku with them, raided the level crossing area to recover firearms around 2:30am.
Sensing the presence of the policemen, Diku's cohorts opened fire, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, the OC said, adding that Diku sustained bullet wounds in his left leg while his cohorts managed to flee.
