ACC imposes travel ban on MP Shahid’s family members
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has imposed a travel ban on Laxmipur-2 lawmaker Mohammad Shahid Islam Papul's wife Selina Islam, daughter Wafa Islam and sister-in law Jasmin Akhter.
Selina is also a lawmaker from a reserve seat in Parliament.
"We've asked the immigration authorities to take necessary steps to prevent them leaving the country. A letter in this regard was sent to the Immigration Police today," an ACC director told The Daily Star preferring anonymity.
MP Shahid, who goes by the alias Kazi Papul, has caused an uproar in Kuwait by revealing that high-placed officials of that country used to take bribes from him.
He made the striking admission after nine days of interrogation by Kuwaiti authorities, their local newspaper Al-Rai of the Gulf country reported.
On June 10, ACC Assistant Director M Salahuddin served notices to MP Shahid, his wife and two family members to submit some documents including copies of their passports, National Identity cards, TINs and income tax returns within 15 days.
