A maize trader, abducted from Gangachhara upazila of Rangpur on Tuesday, was rescued in Nilphamari Sadar upazila yesterday.

The victim is Rabiul Islam Moshiur, 32, son of Mozammel Huque of Motukpur village in Gangachara upazila of Rangpur.

Shahjahan Pasha, officer-in-charge of Nilphamari Police Station, said the victim was abducted from Godown Haat, a few kilometres from his home, allegedly by his brother-in-law Golam Rabbani over a land dispute.

The abductors took the victim to Chaora village in Sadar upazila of Nilphamari on the same day and kept him confined to the house of one Monsur Ali.

Younger brother of the victim, Naziur Rahman, filed a case with Gangachhara Police Station, accusing Golam Rabbani and two others.

The police station also sent a message to Nilphamari Sadar Police Station regarding the case.

Accordingly, police raided the house of Monsur Ali with the help of local union parishad chairman Julfikar Ali Bhutto and rescued Moshiur.

Police arrested the alleged abductors Zillur Rahman and Abdur Rashid, but failed to arrest the main accused Golam Rabbani as he fled the scene, sensing the presence of the law enforcers.
