Abducted Bangladeshi rescued in Malaysia

Malaysian police rescued a Bangladeshi expatriate yesterday after his brother alerted the law enforcers to his kidnapping.

Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohammad Azlin Sadari said police received word from the brother at about 1:20am on Thursday.

"He got a call from a stranger that day, demanding he pay RM 25,000 (US$ 5573.52) or his brother would be killed.

"And when he called his brother, he said his brother told him that he was tied up and was scared for his life," he said.

ACP Azlin said the kidnappers demanded that the money be paid by 5:00pm the same day.

Moving quickly, the police arrested four Bangladeshis, all in their 30s, within the Subang Jaya area, on the day itself.

"A team from D9 (Serious Crimes Division) was mobilised. One of the suspects we caught led us to the 33-year-old victim, who was tied up in a building in Jalan Mengkuang, Kuala Lumpur," he said.

"He was brought to IPD Subang after he was rescued. The victim sustained minor injuries on his wrists from being tied up."

The victim was apparently supposed to bring two of the suspect's brothers to Malaysia for work but failed to do so.

He was also allegedly paid RM10,000 (US$ 2229.41) beforehand for this.
