8th-grader, van driver killed in road accident in Jashore

Samia Islam, 13, a class-8 student, and Abu Hanif, 45, a van driver, were killed when the van they were in was hit by a truck.

Two other schoolgirls were injured in the incident. Police seized the truck, but the driver managed to escape, our Benapole correspondent reports.

The accident took place in front of Navaran Khajura Niha filling station on the Navaran-Satkhira highway on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Samia Islam, daughter of Samiul Islam of Kathuria village under Sharsha upazila and van driver Abu Hanif, son of Nasur Uddin of the same village.

Samia was a student of Navaran Burujbagan Girls School.

Titu Mia, officer in-charge, Navaran Highway Police Outpost , confirmed the matter.

The other two injured are being treated at the Navaran Hospital.

Hanif had been admitted to Jashore General Hospital, where he died at around 3:00pm. The bodies have been sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

A case has been filed in this regard.
