7 hurt, 3 houses vandalised in Nilphamari

Seven people were injured and three houses vandalised during a clash between the supporters of two defeated union parishad (UP) member candidates in Ramnagar union under Sadar upazila of the district yesterday.

Elections were held in 12 unions of the district on April 23.

Locals said the supporters of defeated member candidates Abdul Hamid and Rafiqul Islam engaged in an altercation over the causes of their defeat in the election at a tea stall at Kachari Sarkarpara village in the morning.

After a few minutes, Rafiqul Islam and his supporters, equipped with lethal weapons, went to the spot and attacked three houses of Abdul Hamid, prompting his supporters to retaliate.

Being informed, police went to the spot and dispersed the clashing groups. The injured were admitted to Nilphamari Sadar Hospital and Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
