7 held while gambling at Rajshahi ‘AL office’

Police arrested seven people, including an Awami League leader, while gambling at a local AL office in Horgram union of Poba upazila on Saturday night.

The arrestees are Matiur Rahman, 53, Haran Chandra Das, 42, Hasan Alim, 35, Jamal Uddin, 48, Yusuf Ali, 50, Amzad Hossain, 40, and Raju Hossain, 34.

Of them, Haran is the assistant secretary of the union unit of the ruling party while Matiur president of ward-3 unit of Krishak League.

On information, police conducted a drive at the ward-3 AL office on Saturday night and arrested seven people with cards and cash money, said Mansur Ali Arif, officer-in-charge of Kashiadanga Police Station.

Besides, three other people, including ward AL president Shahjahan Ali, managed to flee, he said.

All of the arrestees were produced before a court today and a case was filed against them in this connection, the OC said.
