6 to die for killing Chandpur Krishak League leader

A special court in Chittagong today awarded death penalty to six persons in a case filed for killing a Krishak League leader, Oli Ullah, in 2014.

The six convicts are Md Abdul Hamid, Md Mehedi Hasan Shakil, Md Gourob, Md Harun Mridha, Md Abdul Kader Mridha and Nazmul Hasan alias Sharfin. All of them are fugitives.

Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Mohisul Haque Enam Chowdhury also acquitted four accused -- Md Aktar Hossein, Md Muajjem Hossein, Abu Taher and Md Jakir Hossein – as allegation brought against them were not proved.

Oli Ullah, Krishak League president of Kachua unit of Chandpur, was hacked to death in Shankarpur village in Kachua upazila on July 29 in 2014 around 10:00pm.

His wife Jainab Begum filed a case on the same day with Kachua Police Station.

Police later submitted charge sheet on March 31, 2015.
