5 war crimes accused held
Police today arrested five men from Mymensingh and Panchagarh hours after the International Crimes Tribunal-1 issued warrant against six people for their alleged involvement in war crimes committed during the Liberation War in 1971.
The arrestees are Abdus Salam, 68, Suruj Ali Fakir, 70, Joynuddin Faruki, 66, Abdur Rahim, 66, and Jalal Uddin, 70, reports our local correspondent.
Police arrested Abdur Rahim and Jalal Uddin from their residences under Mymensingh Kotwali Police Station around noon, Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station, told the Daily Star.
Abdus Salam and Suruj Ali were arrested from their houses in Muktagacha upazila of Mymensingh following the arrest warrant, said Akhter Morshed, OC of Muktagacha Police Station.
Joynuddin, who has been living in Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh for many years, was arrested from his house, said Sukumar Mohanta, OC of Debiganj Police Station.
Another accused is yet to be arrested.
Earlier in the day, the three-member tribunal led by Justice Anwarul Haque issued the warrant following a petition moved by Prosecutor Abul Kalam.
