5 to die for 3 murders in Comilla, Jessore, Bagerhat

Five people have been awarded capital punishment in three murder cases in Comilla, Jessore and Bagerhat districts.

In Comilla, Judge of Additional Sessions Judge's Court-4 Nurun Nahar Begun Sheuli yesterday awarded death sentence to Abul Kalam, 24, Mohammad Sabuj, 20, and Mohammad Toufiq, 20, for killing their friend Mohammad Sujon, son of Nazrul islam of Kaladumur village in Muradnagar upazila under Comilla district in 2012, reports a correspondent.

Sujan, living with his mother Jahanara Begum in Chandina upazila of Comilla district, went out with Tk 1 lakh and 60 thousand for buying a motorcycle on September 16 in 2012.

Giving assurance to give required 'additional money' needed to buy a high quality motorcycle, Kalam, Sabuj and Toufiq accompanied Sujan to Chandina municipal office area.

They had Sujan drink addictive drug and killed him by slitting his throat at a field behind Chandina Girls' College, goes the prosecution.

Informed by a local youth that Sujan was seen with Kalam on September 12 midnight, police arrested Kalam, and following his information, recovered Sujan's body from the bush of an abandoned house near Chandina Girls' College on September 21. Police also recovered Tk 57 thousand from Kalam's house.

That night Sujan's mother field a case accusing Kalam, Sabuj and Toufiq of killing her son and police showed the three arrested.

The next day three arrestees confessed to the court their involvement in the murder.

Our Benapole Correspondent reports: A Special Judge's Court in Jessore on Wednesday awarded death sentence to one Bilkis Begum, 30, for killing her stepson at Balia village in Jhikargachha upazila in 2009.

According to prosecution, Bilkis, wife of Ayatullah Khomeni of the upazila, killed seven-year-old Rabbi, Khomeni's son from his former wife, by feeding rice mixed with poison on October 13 in 2009.

The victim's uncle Maminur Rahman filed a case with Jhikargachha Police Station accusing Bilkis and police submitted charge sheet against her on June 9 in 2010.

After examining the records and pieces of evidence, Judge Nitai Chandra Saha delivered the verdict.

A Correspondent reports from Bagerhat: The District and Sessions Judge's Court yesterday pronounced death sentence to one Shikder Mahmudul Alam, 35, for killing his newly married wife in Mollahat upazila of the district in 2013.

According to prosecution, Alam, son of late Shamsul Alam Shikder, a resident of Daibakandi village in Mollahat upazila, killed his wife Sharifa Akter Putul, 21, daughter of Abu Daud Sheikh of the same village, on May 13 in 2013, alleging her extramarital affair.

Putul was also a third year student of Eden Girls' College in Dhaka,

The victim's father Abu Daud Sheikh filed a murder case with Mollahat Police Station on May 14, 2013.

Officer-in-charge of the police station Abu Sayeed Mohammad Khairul Anam, also investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge sheet accusing Mahmudul Alam on November 10 that year.

Judge of the District and Sessions Judge's Court Mizanur Rahman Khan handed down the verdict while the convict remains absconding upon expiry of his bail.
