5 killed in truck, auto-rickshaw collision in Sherpur

Five people were killed and two others were injured in a collision between a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Sherpur Sadar upazila this morning.

The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Md Jubed Ali (25) and passengers Selim Mia (25), Rokshana Begum (30), Abdul Mannan (58) and Lal Mia (35) of adjacent Nalitabari upazila of the district, reports our Mymensingh correspondent.

Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge of Sherpur Police Station Md Abdullah Al Mamun said the accident happened on Sherpur-Nalitabari road in Mirzapur area around 9:00am, leaving three people dead and four others injured on the spot.

The injured persons were taken to Sherpur General Hospital where Lal Mia and Abdul Mannan died later.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.

Police seized the truck but its driver and helper managed to flee, said the OC.

A case was lodged with the police station.
