4 killed in Kurigram road accident

At least four people were killed and three injuredin a head-on collision between a bus and a private car on Kurigram-Rangpur highway in Kurigram Sadar upazila this morning.

The accident took place in Spinning Mills area of the upazila around 9:00am, our Lalmonirhat correspondent reports, quoting Md Shaharul Islam, sub-inspector of Kurigram Sadar Police Station.

Further details of the accident could not be known immediately, the police official said.

The deceased were identified as Mujibur Rahman, 55, his wife Bilkis Begum, 45, their son Billal Hossain, 25, and driver of the private car, whose name could not be known immediately, said Anwarul Islam, officer-in-charge (investigation) of the police station.

According to witnesses, the OC said a Kurigram-bound private car from Narsingdi collided head-on with a BRTC bus coming from the opposite direction in the area, leaving the driver of the private car dead on the spot.

Locals rescued six passengers of the private car in a critical condition and sent them to Kurigram General Hospital where Billal was declared dead, according to Meherul Islam, a doctor of the hospital.

Later, Mazibur and Bilkis succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, he said.

The condition of one of the three injured persons is stated to be critical and he may be sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment, the physician said.

Quoting one of them, the doctor said the passengers of the private car were going to visit their relative's house in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram from Narsingdi.
