36 held while returning from India illegally

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested 21 Bangladeshi nationals from Hili border under Hakimpur upazila early yesterday while they were returning home from India through the border without passports.

The border guards also seized Indian Rupees 22,400 and 21 mobile phone sets from their possession.

Quoting the arrestees, BGB said the detainees went India in search of jobs and worked as brick kiln workers in Punjab since February this year.

BGB personnel caught them while they were returning to the country through the border without passports early yesterday, Abdul Jabbar, in-charge of Hili Check-Post, said.

Away in Benapole, BGB detained 15 Bangladeshis while they were returning to the country through Putkhali border under Benapole Port Police Station on early Friday, reports our correspondent.

Ayub Ali, company commander of BGB 26 Battalion, said a team of the border guards, acting on secret information, raided the area around 5:30am and arrested them while they were returning home though the border without valid documents.

The arrestees include 11 women, three men and a child. They all hail from different areas of Bagerhat and Narail districts.

They were later handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.
