300 sued for attack on UNO office in Tangail
Over 300 people have been sued on charge of attacking Delduar upazila nirbahi officer's office in the district on Monday morning.
Abdur Rahman, an assistant to Delduar upazila nirbahi officer and Sub-Inspector Mohammad Bahalul of Delduar Police Station filed two cases with the police station on Monday night against 22 named and 300 unnamed people. Sajjad Hossain Azad, defeated independent chairman candidate of Atia union, is among the named accused, said Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Delduar Police Station.
None of the accused was arrested as of 5:00pm yesterday.
Supporters of Sajjad Hossain Azad tried to lay siege to the UNO's office, demanding a recount of votes cast in the election to Atia Union Parishad held on May 7. They also hurled brick chips at the UNO and set three motorcycles afire there.
At least 10 people, including inspector (investigation) of Delduar Police Station, were injured in the attack.
Delduar police tried to disperse the attackers by charging batons and firing tear-gas shells and bullets, but failed. Later, additional police and Rapid Action Battalion members from Tangail rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Away in Bogra, a clash took place among the supporters of two defeated member candidates at Mohipur PC brick kiln area in Garidaha union under Sherpur upazila of the district at around 8:30pm on Monday, leaving at least three people injured, reports our correspondent.
Police arrested a man on the spot named Rashedul Karim, 20, son of Rezaul Karim of Baroipara in the same union.
