3 Panchagarh mayor aspirants vow to fight corruption

Three candidates for mayoral post of Panchagarh municipality have vowed to root out corruption and put an end to criminal activities, if elected.

They made their electoral pledges and responded to voters' queries in a 'face-to-face with people' programme organised by Sushasoner Jonno Nagarik (Sujan) at Sher-e-Bangla Park in the town yesterday.

The candidates who attended the programme are Zakia Khatun of Awami League, Abdul Mazid of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) and Abdul Khalek, district Jamaat Amir, who is contesting as an independent candidate.

Touhidul Islam, BNP nominated aspirant and also present Mayor of Panchagarh Municipality, did not attend the programme.  

The three aspirants promised to fulfill their election pledges, if voted to power, and work together for the development of the municipality. They also promised to accept the people's verdict in the election. 

The mayoral candidates also vowed to ensure supply of safe drinking water and communal harmony in the municipality. 

Sujan Panchagarh district unit president Principal Shafiqul Islam presided over the programme while Dilip Biswas, coordinator of Sujan central committee, conducted the programme.

A good number of townspeople attended the programme.
