3 ‘militants’ held with bombs in Dinajpur

Police claimed to have arrested three suspected militants and seized 19 crude bombs and gunpowder from Dinajpur town early today.

The arrestees are: Monirul Islam, 30, son of Amzad Hossain of Dangulita village in Satkhira; Shahinul Islam, 22, son of Abdul Khaleque of Danerhat village in Thakurgaon; and Md Asaduzzaman, 24, son of Mokbul Hossain of Polashbari village in Dinajpur.

The three were detained on charge of trying to carry out subversive activities somewhere in Dinajpur, our local correspondent reports quoting Redwanur Rahim, officer-in-charge of Dinajpur Sadar Police Station.

A police patrol team detained the three from near a mosque in Ramnagar area around 1:45am while they, violating police signal, were trying to speed away on a motorbike, OC Redwanur Rahim, said.

Searching their bodies and bags, police seized 19 crude bombs, three masks, four polythene bags of gun powder, four mobile phones and some books, the OC added.

Police also seized their motorcycle.

Later, they were sent to Dinajpur jail through a local court.
