3 killed in Gazipur, Narayanganj road accidents

Three people including a child were killed and seven others injured in separate road accidents in Gazipur and Narayanganj last night.

The deceased were identified as Shirajul Islam, 45, hailed from Netrakona district; and Devi Burman, 48, and her granddaughter Borsha Burman, 14, of Narayanganj.

In Gazipur, Shirajul, a ceramic factory worker, was killed when a private car hit him on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Joinabazar in Sripur upazila, our local correspondent reports quoting police.

The incident took place around 10:15pm while Shirajul was returning home on his by-cycle from RAK Ceramic Factory where he used to work, said Delwar Hosen, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mawna Highway Police Station. 

Sirajul was trying to cross the highway when a Mymensingh-bound car hit him, leaving him dead on the spot, added the OC.

In Narayanganj, Devi and grandchild Borsha were killed as a bus ran over them while they were crossing a road on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Sonargaon upazila, our correspondent reports quoting Apan Kumar, a sub-inspector (SI) of Sonargaon Police Station.

Driver of Sylhet-bound bus lost control over the steering and ran over the duo on Kanchpur bridge around 10:30pm and later collided head-on with a lorry, SI Apan said quoting witnesses.

Borsha and Devi died on the spot while seven others including driver of the bus were injured in the incident, he added.

Police managed to seize the bus and the lorry. They arrested the driver and his helper.
