3 Iranians held, sent to jail in Kushtia
A Meherpur court yesterday sent three Iranian nationals to jail for their alleged attempt to snatch money from a shop owner in Gangni upazila of the district.
The arrestees are Emir Hussain, 32, Bhoish Ali, 37 and Nadir Ahmedai, 30. All of them are Iranian citizens, Akram Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station said.
According to the OC, the Iranians went to Gangni from Jhenidah in a rented private car. They went into a motorcycle showroom at Pouro Market area of the upazila and asked its owner Shah Jamal to change dollars into taka.
"As Shah Jamal opened his cash box, the Iranians tried to snatch the money from him," the OC said.
Hearing Shah Jamal's cry, locals rushed to the spot and chased the Iranians, who fled the scene in their car. But the car fell into a roadside ditch at Chokhtola area of the upazila when the driver lost control.
Locals caught them and informed the police.
Police produced them before the Judicial Magistrate's Court. Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Muhiduzzaman sent them to jail.
The court also ordered Gangni police to file a case against them.
