3 cops held on extortion charge

Three police constables were arrested in Sadar upazila of the district yesterday on charge of extortion.

The arrestees are Constables Moniruzzaman, 30, of the detective branch, Firoz ul Islam, 26, and Hafizur of the district special branch.

Mohammad Mojid Ali, Superintendent of Khagrachhari police, said the three were arrested on a complaint from a woman named Mafprue Marma of Ganjapara area in the town that they had demanded Tk 27,000 from her.

Departmental action will be taken against the arrested constables the SP said, adding that a case was filed against them with Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station.
