2nd submarine cable unearthed in Kuakata due to tidal wave
The country's second submarine cable has come out of the ground in Patuakhali due to tidal waves in the Bay of Bengal.
The line came out at Zero Point in Kuakata beach yesterday afternoon due to mighty tidal surges, said Tariqul Islam, deputy general manager (DGM) of Kuakata submarine cable landing station today.
He said the 25,000km-long optical fibre line that came from the bottom of the sea is landed to Kuakata and connected to the submarine cable landing station at Amkholapara, around 5km to the north of Kuakata sea beach.
Yesterday, nearly 10 feet of articulated pipe (cable line) came out of the sandy beach but there will be no problem in providing internet service, our Patuakhali correspondent reports quoting the DGM.
DGM Tariqul said Kuakata Tourist Police has already deployed security personnel on the spot to protect the cable.
Measures will be taken to repair the line when the weather conditions become normal, Tariqul added.
