Police in a drive today recovered 86 sacks (30 kg per sack) containing 2,580kgs of rice of the government's food-friendly programme from a rickshaw-van garage in Shajahanpur upazila of Bogura.

Tipped off, a team of Shajahanpur police launched a drive at the garage in Umordighi Bazaar area around 5:30pm and seized the sacks rice, said Md Amber Hossain, inspector (investigation) of the police station.

Garage owner Ziaur Rahman said a person stored the rice in his garage and he only learnt they were rice from the government's food-friendly programme after police had seized it.

Inspector Amber told our Bogura correspondent, "We already knew about the person who stored this rice here. We are contacting the upazila food officials in this regard. When the food officer ensures us that these are government rice then we will take action against the person involved."
