25 injured in clash over fishing

At least 25 people were injured in a clash between two groups over fishing in a water body in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj district on Friday evening.

Of the injured, seven were admitted to Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex and nine to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital. The rest of the injured were given first aid at the upazila health complex.

Quoting locals, police said an altercation took place between the two groups -- one led by of Milon Miah from Lakhipur village and the other by Suhel Miah from Surjogaon village -- over fishing in Matian Haor (water body) at around 6:00pm.

Later, the rival groups, equipped with lethal weapons, swooped on each other, leaving at least 25 people from both sides injured, police said.

Officer-in-Charge Md Sahidullah, of Tahirpur Police Station, said a case was filed in connection with the incident yesterday morning. None was arrested as of 5:00pm yesterday.
