24 held while going to India illegally
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained 24 Bangladeshi nationals while they were going to India illegally through Bhomra border in Sadar upazila of the district early yesterday.
Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team of the border guards raided the area around 5:00am and detained 24 people while they were crossing the border without passports, said Subedar Golam Sarwar, company commander of BGB 38 Battalion at Bhomra Port.
The arrestees, who hail from different upazilas of Satkhira, Jessore, Feni, Khulna, Noakhali and Mymensingh districts, were handed over to Sadar Police Station around 12:00noon.
Later, they were produced before a court that sent them to jail, said Emdadul Haq, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.
Quoting some arrestees, the OC said they all were going to India in search of work.
