21 activists of AL associate bodies suspended

Twenty one local leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Jubo League and Swechchhasebak League were suspended following a factional clash during the council of the district unit of BCL on Monday.

They include Ahasanul Haque Rumu, member secretary of Bandarban College unit of BCL, Bappi Mallik, organising secretary of the municipality unit of Jubo League, Md Ibrahim, secretary of the district unit of Swechchhasebak League, Sohrab Hossain, president of ward No 6 unit of Jubo League, Ariful Islam, Saiful Islam and N A Jakir, members of the college unit of BCL, said sources.

At night, the district Awami League authorities took the decision at an emergency meeting with Kwe Shwe Hla, president of the district unit of AL, and chairman of Bandarban Hill District Council (BHDC), in the chair.

The clash took place between two factions of BCL during its Bandarban unit council session attended by Bir Bahadur U Shwe Sing, state minister for CHT affairs.

Six people, including HM Bodiuzzaman Sohag, central president of BCL, were injured during the incident.

Later, seven people were sent to jail in a case filed by Touhidul Islam Rashed, former president of Bandarban district unit of BCL.
