2 workers die in crane accident at Rampal power plant

Two workers were killed when a portion of a crane fell on them at Rampal thermal power plant in Bagerhat last night.

The deceased were identified as Asadur Rahman, 32, from Begerhat and Nasir Uddin, 27, of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila, our Bagerhat correspondent reports quoting police.

The “sling wire” of a crane fell on the workers around 8:00pm when the crane was elevating large pipes, leaving the two workers critically injured, Shaon Mollik, a site engineer, told The Daily Star.

They succumbed to their injuries around 10:00pm after they were whisked off to Khulna Medical College and Hospital, hospital sources said.

Rampal Police Station Officer-In-Charge Md Lutfor Rahman confirmed the casualties.

Notably, two other workers were also killed inside the construction site on March 3 in similar accident exposing the vulnerability in the workers’ safety.
