2 women beaten over land dispute

Two women were beaten up by their rivals over a land dispute at Moheshpur Amtoli village in Sadar upazila of the district on Tuesday.

The injured are eight-month-pregnant Aleya Begum, 20, wife of Monarul Islam, and Monarul's younger sister Ayesha Banu, 28, wife of Shamsul Haque.

Quoting locals, UP Chairman Nazrul Islam Chowdhury said there had been a longstanding dispute between Monarul Islam and Abul Hossain of the village over the ownership of a disputed land.

As Monarul and other male members of the family were not present Abul and his men, equipped with sharp weapons stormed into Monarul's house and vandalised four rooms around 4:00pm.

They also looted valuables and cash Tk 2 lakh from the house, Monarul said.

Aleya and Ayesha were beaten up mercilessly by the goons when they tried to resist them. They are undergoing treatment at Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital.

Officer-in-Charge Moshiur Rahman of Sadar Police Station said he heard about the incident but none had filed any complaint in this regard yet.
