2 touchstone statues recovered by BGB in Naogaon
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have recovered two statues of Hindu deities Vishnu and Jagaddhatri made of touchstone in Naogaon's Mahadevpur upazila.
The statues were found in a haystack at one Kalu Miya's house in Bakapur village in the upazila on Tuesday night, BGB-16 Naogaon Battalion said in a press statement today.
On information that the statues, weighing 76 kg and 56 kg respectively, were kept to be smuggled, BGB-16 personnel conducted a drive around 8:00pm and recovered those, said Lt Col Md Rejaul Kabir, commanding officer of BGB-16.
Sensing presence of law enforcers, the smugglers fled from the scene and no one could be detained in this connection, the official said.
A general diary (GD) has been filed with Mahadevpur Police Station in this connection, said Nazrul Islam Jewel, officer-in-charge of the police station.
BGB will hand over the statues to the Department of Archaeology, the OC added.
