2 students drown after boat capsizes in Dhaka’s Kadamali Lake

Two students drowned after a boat they were on capsized in Kadamali Lake under Mugda Manda area in the capital this afternoon.

The dead are Naima Sultana, 18 and Mridul Hasan Rabbi, 18, reports our staff correspondent quoting Md Rasel Shikdar, duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters.

Proloy Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mugda Police Station, said five friends, including the duo, had rented a boat on the lake.

At one point, the boat began to sink. Three of those on the boat managed to swim ashore, he said, adding that Naima and Mridul drowned.

On information, firemen rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies, a fire official said.

They later handed the bodies over to the family members.
