2 schoolchildren among 3 killed by lightning strikes in Gazipur

Two school students and one an elderly man died in lightning strikes in different areas of Gazipur today.

The two schoolchildren died while playing football at a stadium in Gazipur city, while an elderly man was fishing in Ajmatpur area of Kaliganj upazila around 12:30pm.

The deceased were identified as Mizanur Rahman (16), a ninth-grader of Gazipur Ideal School, Nadim Hossain (16), a tenth-grader of Jangaleer High School, and Riaz Uddin (55) of Jularpar Bipraborta area in Kaliganj upazila.

Mizan and Nadim were declared dead after they were taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting doctors of the hospital. And deceased Riaz Uddin's uncle Babul Hossain said Riaz died on the spot while he was fishing.

Riaz's son Ashadul also sustained minor injuries in the lightning strike, he added.
