2 killed as Teknaf ‘robbers clash with guns’
Two people were killed in what police believes was armed confrontation between two rival groups of dacoits in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf upazila early today.
Police came to know of the incident after locals reported of heavy gunfire in Sadar union's bridge no. 14 area around 1:00am, our local correspondent reports.
"A police team reached the spot and found two bullet-riddled bodies on the ground," said Abdul Majid, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station. Two local guns were recovered from spot.
The two were rushed to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead.
One of the dead was identified as as Sarwar Alam Prokash, 35. He was the prime accused in the murder of a local Awami League leader.
As the OC said, police believes it was an armed confrontation between two rival groups of dacoits, Abdul Hakim group and Nurul Hakim group, and the two dead were likely to be members of those groups.
The bodies were kept at Cox's Bazar General Hospital for autopsy. Police were preparing to file a case in this connection when last reported this morning.
