2 killed in Jhenidah, Jessore ‘gunfights’
Two persons including an alleged activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir were killed in separate "gunfights" in Jhenidah and Jessore districts early today.
In Jhenidah, Saiful Islam, 22, an alleged Shibir activist and a final year student of Arabic literature department at Islamic University, Kushtia, was killed.
Ajbahar Ali Sheikh, additional superintendent of district police, told our Jhenidah correspondent miscreants blasted bombs on a police team near Madhupur-Aruakandi graveyard around 3:00am.
Police retaliated with gunfire in self-defense. The youth was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot. One shutter gun, five crude bombs, bullets and a billhook was found at the spot.
The body was kept at Jhenidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
In Jessore, a suspected criminal was killed in "gunfight" in Barandipara at Jessore town, UNB reports quoting Officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotwali Police Station Mohammad Elias Hossain.
According to police, two gang members of robbers and drug peddlers engaged in a gunfight at Barandipara in the town around 2:45am. One was found dead at the spot afterwards.
Identity of the deceased could not be ascertained. The law enforcers also recovered one pipe-gun, three sharp weapons and three bullets from the spot. A case was filed in this connection.
