2 Jamaat men held with bombs, jihadi books

Two Rokon members of Jamaat-e-Islami were arrested with crude bombs and books on jihad in Raninagar upazila of Naogaon, one Shibir man was arrested in Joypurhat, and five Shibir activists of Dinajpur were taken on seven days' remand on Wednesday.

The two Rokon members are Md Sharifuddin, 45, of Balubhora village, and Abdul Kahar of Morupara village under Raninagar upazila of Naogaon.

Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge (OC) of Raninagar Upazila Police Station, said a police team raided Sharifuddin's residence on Wednesday night and arrested them from a meeting there.

The other members managed to flee, the OC said. Police seized three crude bombs and books on jihad from their possession.

In Kalai upazila of Joypurhat, police arrested a Shibir man on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided Nandaildighi village under Kalai upazila of Joypurhat and arrested Mushfiqur Rahman with books and leaflets on jihad.

In Dinajpur, police arrested, Amanullah Sarker, 25, president of Dinajpur district unit of Shibir, Biplob Hossain, 22, organising secretary, Hamidur Rahman, 24, president of Birganj upazila unit of Shibir, and activists Tareque Abedin, 19, and Al Amin, 20, from Leburmor of Dinajpur town on Monday.

Judge SM Ahsanul Haque of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court granted seven days' remand for each of them on Wednesday.

Police said they planned to carry out secret attacks in Dinajpur town.
