2 injured in BSF firing on Jhenidah border

Two Bangladeshi cattle traders were injured in BSF firing on Shyamkur border under Moheshpur upazila of the district early yesterday.

The inured, Abdur Rashid, 45, and his nephew Tarikul Islam, 25, son of Abdul Momin, are residents of Anantapur village in the upazila.

Quoting Tarikul, police said a team of Indian border guards from Fatepur camp in Nadia district of Paschimbanga opened fire on a group of cattle traders while they were returning home with cattle from India through the border around 5:00am.

Rashid and Tarikul sustained bullet injuries while others escaped unhurt, Shahidul Islam Shahin, officer-in-charge of Moheshpur Police Station, said.

Bullet-hit Tarikul, however, crossed the border and is undergoing treatment at Jibonnagar Upazila Health Complex.

Rashid, who failed to cross the border, was caught by the BSF personnel.

He was admitted to Shaktinagar Hospital in Nadia.
