2 girls raped in Faridpur, Chattogram

Two girls were allegedly raped in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur and Chattogram city's Bayezid Bostami Debarpar since yesterday evening.

In Faridpur, an eight-year-old girl was reportedly raped at a village under Boalmari municipality around 8:30am, our local correspondent reports quoting Aminur Rahman, officer in-charge (OC) of Boalmari Police Station.

The victim's father filed a case with the police station and police arrested Anik Sheikh (19), of Shibpur village under the municipality in connection with the case, the OC said.

In the case statement, the victim's father said he was working in his jute field and his daughter was on his way to meet him, when Anik took her to a field and raped her, the OC said.   

The girl was sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for treatment, the OC said, adding that police then conducted drives at different places in and around the area to arrest the accused.

In Chattogram, a 19-year-old former garments worker was allegedly raped by two miscreants in Bayezid Bostami Debarpar area of the port city yesterday evening.

The victim's mother filed a complaint with Bayezid Police Station and police arrested Anwar Hossain (48), and Helal (52), from Debarpar area in connection with the case, said Priton Sarkar, officer-in-charge of the police station.

The victim is now undergoing treatment at the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), according to the police official.

According to the case statement, the OC said the incident took place in Forest Farm area of Debarpar while the girl was returning home through the area around 7:30pm yesterday.

With the help of Helal, Anwar raped the girl and fled the spot without any resistance, according to the case.

Later, the victim's mother and aunt rescued the victim and sent her to CMCH for treatment, said the OC.

After losing her job due to the coronavirus outbreak, the victim was engaged in working at a poultry farm in the area, the OC said.
