A team of police arrested one Ahad Khan while he was vandalising and looting houses of one Afzal Jamaddar, an accused in a murder case, in Kamal Pratap village around 11:00pm on Wednesday, said Ilias Hossain, officer-in-charge of the Narail police station.

Following the arrest, some followers and relatives of Ahad attacked the policemen after they failed to snatch the arrestee, he said.

They also the vandalised the pickup van used by police at the time.

One Safiar Mollah was killed in an attack by his rivals in the village recently. Afzal Jamaddar was made one of the accused in the case filed over Safiar's death. The death may have played a role in the subsequent vandalism and looting, the OC said.
