2 children drown in Kurigram floodwaters

Two children drowned in floodwaters in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram today.

The victims are Bayezid Islam (7), son of Montazul Islam of Char Bagua village and Munni Khatun (2), daughter of Bokul Miah of Char Goraipiar village in the same upazila, our Lalmonirhat correspondent reports quoting police and locals. 

Quoting family members and locals, Moazzem Hossain, officer-in-charge of Ulipur Police Station, said Bayezid drowned in the water which had swept through their yard while the child was there.

Family members rescued him, but he died on the way to hospital around 12:30pm, said the OC.

Munni was swept away by floodwaters in Chirakhawar Par area of the same upazila around 1:00pm, said the police official.

She had come to visit her grandfather's house from Char Goraipiar village, he added.
