2 AL leaders shot dead in Cox’s Bazar
Two Awami League leaders have been shot dead by unknown miscreants in Moheshkhali and Teknaf upazilas of Cox's Bazar.
Deceased Abdul Gafur alias Nagu, 45, a newly elected member of Kutubjoon union, was AL president of Sonadia ward unit of Moheshkhali; and Sirajul Islam, 67, AL president of Teknaf Sadar union unit, reports our Cox's Bazar correspondent.
A gang of five to six criminals opened fire on Nanu when he was returning home at Sonadia village after Tarabi prayer around 9:30am yesterday, said Babu Chandra Banik, officer-inocharge of Moheshkhali Police Station.
He was taken to Cox's bazaar Sadar Hospital around 11:30pm where doctors declared him dead.
Around 1:20am today, miscreants broke open the door of the house of Sirajul and shot him to death, said Abdul Majid, OC of Teknaf Police Station.
The gang also shot his wife Yasmin in her ankle and fled the scene, the OC said adding that she was rushed to Sadar Hospital.
Sirajul's son Abdul Faruk, also is also AL vice president of upazila unit, told the correspondent that his family could recognise the criminals and they have gave the names to the police.
