15 injured as students clash in BSMRSTU
At least 15 people were injured during a clash in campus today between students of two departments of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU).
Twelve of the injured took primary treatment at a local hospital, while three others were admitted to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital, according to university sources.
Witnesses said that an altercation broke out between a second-year student of the political science department and a first-year student of the law department around 11:00am.
Centring it, some students of political science beat up the law student, sources said.
On information, a section of law department students rushed to the spot and joined the clash, said university Proctor Prof Rajiur Rahman.
Equipped with sticks and rods, students of both departments launched attacks and counterattacks, which left at least 15 of them injured, according to witnesses.
Both the chairs of the political science and law departments went to the spot, along with the university proctor, but failed to bring the situation under control, said the sources.
When the three went to discuss a solution, some political science students vandalised several university rooms and even harassed teachers of the law department, claimed teachers and students of the department.
Both the department’s students blamed each other for the incident.
Rajiur Rahman said the situation was now under their control, adding they would take action against those involved as per law.
