10 people hurt in AL infighting

At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two factions of Awami League over establishing supremacy at Tomij Market in the district town on Friday.

AKM Badrul Alam Sammi, a member of the district unit of AL, said they organised a meeting in Temuhoni Lillah Mosque area on the occasion of death anniversary of Nazir Ahmed Bhuiya, a former president of the unit.

A group of AL activists brought out a procession from Sakhari Para area in the town to join the meeting in the afternoon.

When the processionists reached Tomij Market area, a group of district unit of Jubo League, led by its joint convener AKM Salauddin Tipu, swooped on the procession, triggering a clash.

The clash left at least 10 people from both sides, including Sammi and Abdur Rahim Saudagar, president of district unit of Sainik League, injured.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Abdullah Al Mamun Bhuiya, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

The injured were rushed to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital.

Contacted, Salauddin Tipu refuted the allegation of attacking on the procession.
