BNP for judicial probe into attack on Santals
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today demanded a judicial inquiry into the recent attack on Santals in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha.
“It is a barbaric attack and thus the culprits will have to be tried through a judicial inquiry,” Fakhrul made the demand in a press statement issued for media today.
Pointing the finger at the local lawmaker and upazila chairman of the ruling Awami League for the attack, he said a tense situation is prevailing in the area as the people of the community have been forced to leave their houses.
“I have no words to express my condemnation over the attack. It recalls the barbaric attack of the Pakistani occupation forces,” he added.
Fakhrul said such type of attack on the religious minorities took place during the rule of the Awami League-led government though the party always speaks for secularism.
“The houses and temples of the people of Hindu, Buddhist and Christian communities are being looted and vandalised by the people of the ruling party,” he blamed.
The security of lives, goods and others valuables of the religious minorities are threatened and the “government is responsible” for this, he added.
In the statement, the BNP leader also demanded due compensation for the affected people in the area.
