President, PM, greet people on Eid-ul-Azha
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today greeted the countrymen and the Muslims across the world in their respective massages on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha to be celebrated on Saturday.
In a message, the president urged all to expedite the national development being imbued with the essence of the sacrifice of Eid-ul-Azha and by upholding the country's tradition of communal harmony in their personal and social life, reports BSS, a state run new agency.
Terming Bangladesh 'a unique example of communal harmony in the world,' the president said people from all religions perform their rituals peacefully since time immortal here. "It is an unparallel heritage of our synchronization," he added.
The president urged all to be vigilant so that no vested quarter can create instability in the society by misinterpreting religion. "The main message of all religions is welfare of people," he said.
He said the spirit of sacrifice of Eid-ul-Azha is a unique example of showing respect and love to almighty Allah.
Abdul Hamid said Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) has set an incomparable example of love, obedience and sacrifice to Allah by taking steps to sacrifice his beloved son Hazrat Ismail (AS) at the directives of Allah.
"If the ideal of true love and sacrifice towards Allah is reflected in our personal and social life, peace will be established in society and jealousy and adversity among people will decrease," he added.
He said: "Realizing the essence of sacrifice (Eid-ul-Azha), we will have to pave the way to establish peace, harmony and welfare in society."
The president hoped that Eid-ul-Azha would bring welfare and peace for all.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon the countrymen to build a happy, prosperous and peaceful Bangladesh free from discrimination by participating in welfare-oriented activities and containing the essence of Eid-ul-Azha.
"Eid gives us a unique education of peace, sympathy, sacrifice and brotherhood. So, let's come to establish a happy, prosperous and peaceful Bangladesh free from discrimination by participating in the welfare-oriented activities and realizing the essence of Eid-ul-Azha," she said in the message.
The premier greeted the countrymen and the Muslim community in the world on the occasion and said the unique instance set by Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) by sacrificing his dearest thing for the satisfaction of Allah will be imitated and followed forever.
"Through the festival, the capable Muslims ensure equality for all by distributing meat of their sacrificial animals among relatives and neighbours," she added.
She prayed to Allah for continued peace, progress and prosperity of the country and Muslim Ummah on the holy day.
Besides, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, now in London for treatment, also greeted the Muslim Ummah including people of Bangladesh on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
In her massage, Khaleda Zia said the main learning of the festival is to ensure people’s welfare sacrificing personal interest.
“It is our duty to ensure people’s peace and harmony in the society by giving up jealousy, hatred, greediness and anger in light of the spirit of the festival,” she added.
