A woman who was reported to have fled from MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital yesterday after developing coronavirus-like symptoms said she had in fact been discharged from the hospital.

The woman said this after she was found at her father's house in Sylhet Sadar upazila today.

The woman claimed that she was discharged after being treated, showing a discharge letter to the police, said Shahadat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Airport Police Station in Sylhet, after locating the woman around 12:00pm.

Dr Himangshu Lal Roy, deputy director of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, said samples were collected from the woman on Wednesday and the tests came back positive yesterday.

Brig Gen Younusur Rahman, director of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, said, "We will look into the matter of whether she fled or was given discharge order."

The woman is now undergoing treatment at Corona Isolation Centre of Sylhet Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, said Sylhet's Civil Surgeon Dr Premananda Mandal.

Dr Himangshu said the woman, hailing from Khadimnagar village, was undergoing treatment at the pediatric unit of the hospital after giving birth to a stillborn baby on Wednesday and subsequently developed coronavirus-like symptoms.

"Observing her symptoms, we kept the doctors and nurses alert about her condition. She probably fled from the hospital after samples were collected from her," he said.

Dr Himangshu added that they have already informed local administration about the matter.

A total of 49 Covid-19 positive cases have been reported in Sylhet so far.
