Constable dead after being in self-quarantine was Covid-19 positive
A police constable, who was in quarantine, died last night, and his sample tested Covid-19 positive today.
The deceased -- Constable Jasim Uddin (40) -- was posted at a police outpost under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Wari Zone), Bangladesh Police Headquarters said in a press release issued today.
After he exhibited coronavirus-like symptoms, his sample was sent to icddr,b on April 25 for Covid-19 test and since then he was in quarantine, the press release said.
As his condition deteriorated yesterday (April 28), Jasim was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 10:00pm, it added.
The test results came today, which said he was infected with coronavirus, the press release said.
His body will be taken to his village home in Cumilla where he will be buried under supervision of Bangladesh Police, maintaining all the religious customs.
An official of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said this is the first death of a policeman from coronavirus.
More than 200 police personnel have so far been infected and over 600 have been in quarantine across the country.

Expressing deep shock at the death of Jasim Uddin, Bangladesh Police Headquarters said he was a proud member of the headquarters who was a field-level frontline fighter against coronavirus.
"Bangladesh Police will turn the shock of losing Jasim Uddin into strength," the press release said adding that it will always stand by Jasim Uddin's family.
