Kushtia reports two coronavirus cases, first in the district
Two people including a banker have tested positive for coronavirus in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia and the district town today.
They are the first Covid-19 patients in the district, said Dr Taposh Kumar Sarker, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Kushtia General Hospital.
A 60-year-old man, a resident of Gotria village in Kumarkhali upazila, was suffering from bronchitis and fever, he said.
His samples were collected and sent to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) on April 18, said the doctor.
Besides, the banker, a 35-year old man, returned to his Aruapara resident in Kushtia town from Madaripur with fever on April 15 -- his sample was collected on April 18 and sent to the IEDCR for testing.
Today, the test reports of the two people came back positive, Dr Taposh said.
Decisions on their treatment will be taken after assessing their physical condition, the doctor added.
SM Tanvir Arafath, a superintendent of Kushtia police, said both the patients were kept in home quarantine after samples were collected from them.
Aslam Hossain, deputy commissioner (DC) of Kushtia said at least 10 adjacent houses of each patient have been locked down.
