Bagerhat reports first coronavirus case

A 35-year-old man has tested positive for coronavirus in Chitalmari upazila of Bagerhat, making him the first confirmed case in the district.

Dr Mehedi Nawaz, vice principal of Khulna Medical College, confirmed the development last night, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.

"A total of 60 samples from different districts of Khulna division were sent to Khulna Medical College for testing. Of those, we have gotten one positive result," said the doctor.

The infected man, who is an imam of a mosque in Madaripur, had returned to his Patarpara village in Chitalmari upazila from Madaripur district on April 9, he added.

Chitlmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Maruful Alam said his samples were collected as he came from outside the district.

The infected man and his family members were asked not to go outside of their residence, added the UNO.
